In K3 we have been investigating various
habitats of living things. We made a trip to Mito Sea Paradise to view the
under the sea creatures. We have also been observing Rhino Beetles, Roly-poly
bugs and other insects in our environment.
We decided to make Diorama to explore our
Line of Inquiry further and consider what living things need in terms of
shelter.
We observed carefully from real life, photos and video footage. We shaped and molded modeling clay to make the insects or sea creatures.
Next we painted our clay paying attention
to the true colours.
Then we thought about the habitat, and used
various materials to make a home for the creatures to live in.
Children learnt a lot about local flora and
fauna as well as developing their fine motor crafting skills.
We then practiced saying in English all about what we made. “It’s an ocean habitat.”
“I made a dolphin.” “I painted it
blue.” “This is seaweed.”
“It’s a forest habitat.” "I made two Rhino
beetles.” “It’s a tree.” “I used twigs and green paper.”
